Building Project

Building Project History

Discussions surrounding a new library building have been happening for over 50 years, starting in 1973. The topic has been revisited several times over the decades.

In 2009, the Village of Boyceville Planning Commission put together a comprehensive plan that stated the following: “Due to the growth of the Village, the library has outgrown their current space. The building is outdated, does not comply with many of today’s ADA guidelines, and is in need of renovation.” It was recommended then that the library be expanded within the next five years.

More recently, in late 2023, preliminary results of the community needs survey sent to Village residents indicated that people in our community overwhelmingly support our interest in building a new facility. In April 2023, the Boyceville Public Library Board of Trustees conducted interviews with three architectural firms. The Board chose to work with River Architects based in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Later that same month, a Building Committee was put together, consisting of trustees, former and current library staff, teachers from the Boyceville School District, and community members.

The Building Committee, working closely with River Architects, began meeting in June 2023. Over the course of several months, our new library began to take shape thanks to the design studies put together by River Architects. These design studies have proposed making it a “Net Zero” building, meaning the building’s energy uses would be fully met by renewable energy produced onsite. This will be a first-of-its-kind library in Wisconsin.

In May 2024, the Village Board approved making the old feed mill lot the site for the new library building. The current goal of the Boyceville Public Library Board of Trustees and the Building Committee is to get as much community feedback as possible so that we can ensure our new building serves Boyceville well. We will be holding design discussions in schools, churches and other locations throughout Boyceville and the surrounding areas, as well as put together focus groups.
